Awareness-Raising Events Continue: Most recently at Vakfıkebir, Trabzon

The fourth of the Awareness-Raising Event (ARE) series was held on 31 May 2021 in Trabzon. The event, as did previous ones, aimed to raise awareness on civilian oversight, and promote the visibility of the Local Prevention and Security Board (LPSB) established in Vakfıkebir under the project.

The event was attended by District Governor Mr. Mesut Yakuta, representatives of Ministry of Interior and UNDP, members of the district LPSB, NGO representatives, national and local press-media.

With 43 participants in the event, the opening remarks were delivered by Vakfıkebir District Governor Mr. Mesut Yakuta, and MoI Expert Mr. Hasan Ali Taşlı. UNDP Expert Mr. Ömer Bilen shared the results of the public opinion poll on local security. Then, Ms. Sevcan Kılıç Akıncı, UNDP Key Expert on Local Boards, delivered two presentations namely on “Importance of Civilian Oversight to Build Trust” and “Developments under the Project and Vakfıkebir Local Prevention and Security Plan.”

The afternoon session featured group and plenary discussions towards generating innovative solutions for Vakfıkebir Local Prevention and Security Plan. The results of group discussion were delivered to the plenary by group spokespersons.

The series of events in Trabzon will continue with Akçaabat Awareness-Raising Event on 1 June 2021.
